Each mark is 1 degree at the cam and 2 degrees at the crank. So, if you advance the intake cam 2 marks, that'd be +4 degrees at the crank and you would then have to readjust your ignition timing by rotating the distributor towards the radiator while the car is idling with the service connector next to the ECU shorted. Wow, that was a long sentence. smile Toda gears only allow 5 cam degrees of adjustment in either direction to prevent interference between a piston and valve should the gears slip. Skunk2's have twice this range, so you will break something if those bolts slip. Just tighten them in a criss-cross pattern and don't go crazy on the torque. I've had my Skunk2's for about a year now and have adjusted them about a dozen times and haven't had a problem.

    Thanks.

I haven?t known that the cam gears have something to do with the cranks position. Why this?

Are you sure, 1 mark is 1 deg? That means that the skunk2 allows only 5 degrees in each direction at the cam like the toda?s. The skunk2 have 5 marks in both ways. Perhaps I don?t could read your text b/c of my bad english.

Toda asllows only 5 degs either way

How many degrees do you recommend to prevent engine damage?

The distributor is driven off of the intake cam, so if you change the timing of the cam via the cam gear, you change the ignition timing.

When I first got the Skunk2 gears, I also bought the Skunk2 cams and had the car tuned on the dyno by Group A, the maker of Skunk2 products. Their dyno man told me 1 mark on the gear is 2 degrees at the crank. The general rule of thumb I've seen as far as cam gears is to go no more than 6 crank degrees in either direction. That'd be 3 marks in either direction the Skunk2 gears. When I had my cams tuned, we ended up with +2.5 marks on the intake and +1 mark on the exhaust.

I have the skunk2 cam gears. I want to know how many degrees is one laser printed mark on the pulley? (They have 5 marks in + and - way)
